Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an important part of The New England Quilt Museum. Your help is truly appreciated once a week, once a month, or once a year. Why should you volunteer?

* You are needed.

* You love quilting.

* You want to see the quilt museum continue to offer great exhibitions, classes, continue the art of quilting, and tell visitors the story of quilting.

Training will be provided for all of these opportunities.

Admission Desk:
* Welcomes visitors.
* Explains the museum layout to our guests.
* Keeps accurate visitor record of visitors on form provided.
* Helps visitors find other city sites.

Shop/ Sales Assistant:
* Assists in the shop with restocking and displays.
* Helps customers find desired items.
* Helps the shop manager with a variety of tasks.

Office Support:
* Mailings, filing, typing labels for the exhibits, sending out press releases, administrative support.
* Amount and type of work varies from day to day.
* Check the "To Do" Box..

Collection Support:
* Help to care for the permanent collection. Ask about our Adopt a Quilt program

Library/ Resource Center:
* Assists visitors with questions about the museum, quilting and Lowell
* Loans books and videos to members and processes new library materials
* Sells donated books, magazines, etc from our continuous yard sale

Exhibition Team:
* Assists in installing 5- 6 exhibitions each year and change the selection from the permanent collection and the period rooms.
* Works closely with the curator on a variety of tasks.

Press and Marketing
* Assists the public relations director with the preparation and mailing of press releases. There is long lead time, 6 week lead time, and 2 week faxes about the opening exhibitions.
* Releases are sent to various media outlets.
* Mounts articles in our PR book.

Special Events:
* Tourist in Our Town, the Lowell Folk Festival, and Winterfest are just some of the special events that the museum participates in.
* White glove attendants and quilt demos, are just a few of the areas where volunteers are needed.

Tour Guides:
We will provide training for our Visitor ServiceRepresentatives to:
* Greet tour groups and provide them with a brief history of the museum.
* Introduce the current exhibit.
* Explain the layout of the museum
* Guide the visitors to view the exhibit and talk about 2- 4 of the quilts in the exhibit, with white gloves to show the back of the quilts.
* Answer any questions, or find the answers

Raffle Quilt Work Day:
* Come into help on the current NEQM raffle quilt. This day is planned for the 2nd Thursday of the month. Call first.
