LONE STAR BRODERIE PERSE QUILT (NEQM Collection 2001.02)
The New England Quilt Museum welcomes inquiries about donations of quilts, quilt tops and related textile and sewing items. The majority of the items in the Permanent Collection were acquired through the generosity of donors.

If you are interested in donating an item, we request that you first contact the Collections Manager by mail or email (collections@nequiltmuseum.org). Supply as much information as you have about the item that you wish to donate, including photographs if possible. Please include your home address, telephone number and email so that we may contact you.

CRITERIA
Many aspects may be taken into consideration when deciding if an item is suitable for the Permanent Collection. Among them are:

      - where the item was made or used;
      - the item's historical significance;
      - a well-documented family history'
      - if the item supports other pieces already in the collection;
      - in the case of a contemporary art quilt, if its maker is a recognized artist;
      - the item's condition and conservation needs.

COLLECTION COMMITTEE
If, after receiving your inquiry, we determine that it should be brought before the Collection Committee for consideration, we will ask you to send or bring it to the museum. The Collection Committee meets twice a year to consider possible acquisitions.

AFTER THE ITEM IS ACCEPTED
If the Collection Committee's makes a positive decision to accept a donated item, a letter of acceptance and Deed of Gift will be sent to the owner. Once the Deed of Gift is signed, witnessed, and returned to the museum, the item becomes the property of the New England Quilt Museum. The item will be exhibited periodically and/or used for study purposes as determined by Curatorial and Collections staff. Your gift will be acknowledged whenever the item is displayed or its image is used in museum publications.

YOUR DONATION IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE
The New England Quilt Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, so your quilt donation is tax deductible. If you claim more than $500 for your gift, the IRS requires that you include Form 8263 (available from the IRS or your accountant) with your tax return. If you claim more than $5,000 for your gift, you must submit a copy of a professional appraisal along with Form 8263. The Museum does not provide appraisals, but can furnish you with a list of certified appraisers.
