TO BOSTON WITH LOVE:
SEND A LITTLE LOVE
No group is better than quilters at stepping up to comfort those affected by tragedy.
There have been quilts for Japan after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, pilowcases for Newtown, CT after the recent shootings, Project Linus, the giant AIDS quilt, and so many other examples.
Now, in time for Memorial Day, Modern Quilt Guild members worldwide are getting together to create hundreds of banner flags showing support for Boston in the wake of the Marathon bombings.
This effort is being spearheaded by the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild. The resulting flags will be
on display Memorial Day weekend at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and admission to the MFA will be free that weekend [Saturday, May 25-Monday, May 27]..
If you would like to make a flag, instructions can be found here. The Button Box Quilt Shop in Wellesley, MA will be hosting a sew-a-thon this Saturday, May 18th in an effort to make as many little 6"x8" flags as possible to support the "To Boston With Love" project . If you'd like to take part, contact the Button Box quilt shop (email info@buttonboxsewing.com) or project coordinator Berene Campbell (email berene@happysewlucky.com ).
Show your love and make a flag for Boston!
You can also drop your flag off at the museum by end of day on Friday, May 17th and we'll make sure they're delivered to the Museum of Fine Arts.
