TO BOSTON WITH LOVE:
SEND A LITTLE LOVE

Picture
No group is better than quilters at stepping up to comfort those affected by tragedy.
There have been quilts for Japan after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami,  pilowcases for Newtown, CT after the recent shootings, Project Linus, the giant AIDS quilt, and so many other examples.

Now, in time for Memorial Day, Modern Quilt Guild members worldwide are getting together to create hundreds of banner flags showing support for Boston in the  wake of the Marathon bombings.

This effort is being spearheaded by the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild. The resulting flags will be
on display Memorial Day weekend at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and admission to the MFA will be free that weekend [Saturday, May 25-Monday, May 27]..

If you would like to make a flag, instructions can be found here. The Button Box Quilt Shop in Wellesley, MA will be hosting a sew-a-thon this Saturday, May 18th in an effort to make as many little 6"x8" flags as possible to support the "To Boston With Love" project . If you'd like to take part, contact the Button Box quilt shop (email info@buttonboxsewing.com) or project coordinator Berene Campbell (email berene@happysewlucky.com ).

Show your love and make a flag for Boston!

You can also drop your flag off at the museum by end of day on Friday, May 17th and we'll make sure they're delivered to the Museum of Fine Arts.

BREAKING NEWS

Just in Time for Memorial Day
FALLEN HEROES QUILTS ON DISPLAY

From May 24 through June 28, seven National Iraq-Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Quilts will be on display at the New England Quilt  Museum.  Each block in these quilts, which are constructed in the style of the Civil War Sanitary Commission quilts, commemorates a service member who died in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars.  Most of the blocks contain the name, rank, date of death and hometown of the service member. The backs of the blocks often have additional information about the soldier and some even have photographs.

These seven quilts, which are in the Permanent collection of the New England Quilt Museum, are the beginning of a national project conceived by Donald Beld of Los Angeles, CA.  Don Beld is also the founder
of the Home of the Brave Quilt Project.
